CULTURAL SITES

Lorgues is located in the department of Var. This department, located in Provence, is a very popular holiday destination. Var has beautiful beaches with bright blue (azure) water, but it is also known for its stunning nature.

If you want to soak up a bit of culture, you can visit one of the many cities, such as Saint Tropez and Toulon, where you can visit the National Maritime Museum or the Sainte-Marie-de-la-Seds Cathedral.

Cities such as Tourtour, Cotignac and Aups are also worth a visit. In the village of Le Thoronet, next to Lorgues, there is the abbey of Le Thoronet. It is the oldest monastery in the region and is considered the pinnacle of Roman architecture in Provence. The monastery consists of several buildings, a special church, vegetable gardens and orchards. The abbey is isolated from civilization. You can enjoy the silence and tranquility.

In Grimaud, just above St. Tropez, it seems as if time has stood still. The village is rich in old buildings and narrow streets. Visit the castle from the 11th century. From this castle you have a beautiful view over the Gulf of St. Tropez.

Massif des Maures is located between the cities of Hyères and Fréjus. The area takes up about a quarter of the department, 60 km long x 30 km wide. It is very popular with hikers, climbers and mountain bikers. The highest point in the area is near Notre-Dame-des-Anges. The view is breathtaking. In addition to the beautiful nature, the area also has an old monastery that is worth a visit. It is called Chartreuse de la Verne and was built in the year 1170.
